This is a transformation story of how a neutral interior design changed the look of a basic, boring bedroom. It is the story of a bedroom makeover on a budget for a rental apartment.
CLIENT BRIEF
RoomPlays designer Lisa has done a fabulous job of creating a glamorous space virtually. She successfully created an e-design to help our client Sarah achieve her interior design goal for her bedroom.

Sarah knew that this being a rental apartment, some things cannot be changed. Yet, she was looking for exciting decorating styles for the bedroom to bring in some warmth. Her room inspiration was a white, neutral, rustic glam style.
Sarah connected with RoomPlays on Instagram. She was scouting for bedroom makeovers in a budget ideas. She lives with her boyfriend in a rental apartment. Sarah loves rustic glam looks and wanted a neutral interior design.

Before & After
Within 3 days and $50 – Lisa turned around the design with a complete Shopping lit, while incorporating Sarah’s original pieces such as the bed and mirror.

Project Challenges
Sarah connected with Lisa on RoomPlays and mentioned that there were a few things that she definitely wanted to change in her rental apartment. She wanted to change the rug and add some layers.

The furniture needed to be rearranged and added as per design. Sarah and her boyfriend had invested in a bed and that had to be used.

The bedroom has a door that leads to a patio outdoors and Sarah wanted that to remain unblocked.

Sarah did not like the wall color of her bedroom much. And it being a rental apartment she knew that cannot be changed. Yet, she yearned for some color and brightness. The room had a white radiator which couldn’t be moved. Sarah was looking for decorating styles to cover the same.

The room had two mirrors – one over a dresser and one oval standing mirror.
The neutral interior design recommendation
The client was looking for a bedroom makeover on a budget and wanted a neutral interior design. Lisa worked out a perfect mood board for them.
She put together a budget-friendly shopping list from Amazon and Wayfair and met all the desired criteria.
Lisa suggested new rugs for the bedroom in neutral shades.
She suggested keeping the bed in the center of the window and adding white curtains. She even gave a sustainable curtain hooks/rod suggestion of using 3M attachments. Lisa’s design idea was to give the bed a centered look along with creating space to place a small nightstand end table on the opposite side.
To tackle the radiator, Lisa recommended a radiator cover. And, she wanted to keep the long oval mirror along the wall. Her idea was to keep the two mirrors reflecting each other to make the room appear larger.
The shopping list
Lisa is an influencer and works with Amazon recommending budget-friendly interior design decorating style guides.
For Sarah’s bedroom-makeover-on-a-budget project, Lisa suggested things that were chic and in-sync with the neutral interior design style.
The Rug

Lisa suggested two different kinds of rugs for the bedroom space. Both are in Gray/Ivory shades to compliment the neutral interior design.

Lisa highly recommends keeping these rugs. They are budget-friendly and look royal.
Bedding
The client wanted white, linen bedding for the room. Keeping that in mind RoomPlays interior designer Lisa suggested two options from Amazon.

This is a 5 piece duvet cover and bed sheet set from Amazon. It fits in the budget and the neutral interior design requirement.

Lisa also shared another option. She suggested this everyday use sheet set from Amazon. Attractively priced at $25, this is a great find for a bedroom makeover on a budget.
The bench
To give the bedroom a more modern glam look, Lisa suggested a couple of bench options. In her mood board, she placed the bench at the end of the bed. It serves as a multifunctional-furniture in the room.

Lisa also picked this classy, gold-toned bench from Amazon. Crafted in wood and upholstered in linen, this bench is one of Lisa’s favorite finds.

She suggested another bench in faux fur white and gold option for the neutral interior design style.
The radiator

Sarah did not like the radiator much. She wanted the radiator to be covered or to be hidden. Lisa did exactly as she wished. She suggested this radiator cover from Amazon for a steal deal. It’s a sturdy piece made of MDF. It can be used as a tabletop for keeping plants, photo frames, books, and other knick-knacks.
The white color of the cover matches the neutral interior design style requirement.
Side Table

Lisa recommended adding this gold and white, marble look side end table to be kept next to the bed. Available for $42.95, this piece of furniture adds a glamorous touch to the neutral interior design style.
Cushions and cushion covers
Don’t we all agree that cushions add depth and glamour to a setting!
Lisa loves to play with cushions and recommended some gorgeous options. All priced within the client’s budget.
Cushions of different types, like embroidered, foil print, plain white add immense prettiness to a bed. These went well with the decoration style requirement of the project.
Tray

Lisa likes these glass and gold tones trays. She suggested keeping a tray on the bed or side table in the new room. These trays are versatile and can be used to keep jewelry, planters, perfumes, or little somethings in any corner of the room.
Bedroom makeover before and after

Lisa’s design mood board for Sarah worked perfectly fine. The mirror placed opposite each other gave great depth to the room, making it appear larger and spacious.
The urchin wall pieces on the wall looked great given the asymmetry of the window. The end-table, the bench, bedding set, and cushions bought the look together. This transformation story of a rental apartment is truly inspiring.

“First time using a virtual designer and I’ll surely be back. Really helpful to get a visual aid and personal shopping list!” – Sarah
